Real or Fake Trees?

It's almost the holiday season, and soon those of us who celebrate Christmas will be putting up our Christmas trees. Do you prefer a real tree or a fake one? What kind of tree is your favorite? Personally, I prefer real trees. We get one every year and the fresh piny smell just brings Christmas into the house. Probably my favorite of the trees we've gotten was a Concord pine we bought a few years ago. It had really cool-feeling needles and smelled almost citrusy. I also like Frasier firs, which we get a lot now. How about you?

Fake trees because real plants don't seem to survive for to long in or around my household. lol The only thing living around here are practically weeds and a few wild flowers.

But yeah I thank fake trees are as good as the real deal. However it's the decorating that's hard to decide on. So many options on that deal, don't you think?

I think real trees are a waste. We only use them for a few weeks and we throw them away. And if we think how many trees are cut every year to be used as Christmass trees i think it is very bad for the invironment.
But i agree real trees smell nice.

We have a fake tree also. We've had it for awhile; I don't remember when we got it but it was definitely over ten years ago. Also, since my room is separate from the actual house, I have a smaller fake tree. Besides being easier to take care of, it is good, (at least for me), because I have three curious dogs that I know would mess with it. So I will also be getting a fake tree whenever I get my own place. *smile*

One of the things we've done with our real trees is recycle them. We have a few of our old ones planted around our house. They're huge now. And I know a lot of the trees that are put out to the garbage are replanted on the dunes at our beaches to prevent erosion, a very common problem around here. Even though you only use the tree for a few weeks, it can still be put to good use after Christmas.

That sounds good. I didn't know they do that. In Cyprus after using them they bern them in their fireplace or something and i thought they might do that in there as well. But if they use them again it is a very good thing. I am glad.

Also in our local area at times persons place the Trees of Pine out on garbade collection day, along side the regular weekly pick-up, there is a special delivery pick-up of the Trees of Pine and these trees are placed like into a shredder/mulsher/chipper vehicle and the resulting mulsh like material is then reused in Tree and Plant nurseries, to help hold water retention around new growth of young trees..also this mulsh like or sometimes, more so like bark chip is useful in the placement of paths, to help guide the way..and too gives the delightful piney scent..air is so refreshing to sniff

We've had a fake tree downstairs for quite some time now and I have a smaller fake tree upstairs on a shelf in my room. I love the smell of fresh trees, but the needles always used to put me off feeling all the decorations hanging or perching in the branches, but I miss having the real fresh tree in the corner of the living room by the window, so I might order a fresh tree this year, from this website I know. It's a company based in the UK, called christmas Time UK and they sell absolutely everything to do with Christmas. Their website, www.christmastimeuk.com, even has a countdown to Christmas day. I'll either do that, or we'll go to our local garden centre, which isn't dissimilar to the company I mentioned above, around Christmas time and mum and I'll choose a tree together.

I think we're going shoping for deccorations and stuff next weekend, but we're waiting a couple more weeks till we get the tree, or it'll be dead by the time Christmas day comes round.

This is a trick question for me. I'm alergic to pine-sap, so even though I'd prefer to have a real, living tree in the house, I've survived with an artificial one all these years. It beats having hay-fever on Christmas day.

an artificial tree is always better to take care of, IMO. Real trees are nice though, if taken care of well.

This is a trick question for me, too. I love the smell and the feel of real trees, and it's always nice to bring that spirit indoors. However, any time a tree is cut down it makes me sad, because I think trees are beautiful and I love places that have lots of them growing. When a storm hits, I always get sad when I see damaged trees. I think having a real tree, and then replanting it or using it to help other young trees is the best of both worlds. that way, I get the joys of a real tree at Christmas, but haven't wasted it for my own selfish pleasure. Cool thread, Chris.

Yeah, a real tree feels and smells really neat but they are a pain to take care of and the needles get everywhere. And if you have pets, they like to play with the tree.

I got a new tree for my room last weekend. It's a fibre optic tree with little light-up transparent "presents" or boxes which plug in to the ends of some of the branches and it looks really pretty. The base, which plugs in to the mains has all these tactile stars, crescent moons and stuff embossed in to it, and it doesn't need many deccorations or anything.

I deffinitly would rather a real tree, but I'm sure when I finally spend christmas on my own, and not with my parents, I will get a fake one. They're much easier to take care of. I still like real ones much better though, fake ones have no real tree smell!

Mum bought us a real tree this year. I don't think it's rooted, so the needles aren't very sharp. It's not dissimilar to a fake tree either, so I have no problems when I want to feel or play with the deccorations. It's really nice. Mum usually develops conjunctivitis when we've had real Christmas trees in the past, but she doesn't seem to've got it this year, so that's good. At least we know the sort of tree that's all right with her now.

fake trees all the way! they're less of a hassle.

We always get real trees!
I don't know what kind but they're always real!!!
BTW if you have doggies and kitties that want to play with the tree, baby safety gates work wonders to keep them away.
